Wobbler, The Best Bait In The World?

Written by Hasse Hansen on June 24th, 2009

Almost anyone who has ever touched a fishing rod have heard about wobblers. If you are one of the few who have not, you should really pay attention, because this bait might be one of the most effective on the market today.

Wobblers have one objective; to imitate injured fish. It does this by swimming with a “wobbling” motion. It is not hard to find a wobbler in the store; it is the bait that looks most like a real fish.

Most wobblers have a spoon on the front. It is this spoon that makes the wobblers move in the way that they do. In addition to make it wobble, it is the spoon that decides if the wobbler sinks of rises when you pull it in.

As wobblers have shown that they can catch just about any kind of fish, a lot of companies have started to produce their own variants. The brand of wobblers that most people have heard of is Rapala. They are rightly credited as the creators of wobblers, and have a long history of producing them.

When we talk about wobblers it is impossible to avoid talking about the three different types. We usually split the into sinking, suspending and floating wobblers. They work in different ways, and should be used for different fishing.

The most common type is the floating wobbler. It is a bait that floats when lying still in the water. When you apply pressure with the reel it is forced down to its swimming dept.

The second type of wobbler, the sinking wobbler, is bait that sinks when lying still in the water. If you put pressure on it, it will rise through the water. Very good for reaching deep water that would else be out of range.

A suspending wobbler is bait who has the same density as water. This means that it neither floats up nor sinks when lying still in the water. Whether it floats or sinks when reeled in depends on the angle of the spoon in the front.
