Usually, you can obtain a short-term permit to fish if you don’t want one for a whole season and want to save a little bit of money. If you live in the area, though, it’s usually more cost-effective to buy the full season license.
Color: Start out with a basic selection of black, white and chartreuse, and those colors will probably do the job. My favorite color on the Mississippi River was yellow. My top producer color on Oregon’s John Day River is motor oil or brown. Black and white are always contenders. Experiment in your area, and you’ll be able to dial in the local color preferences.
Some spoons are made to be cast, others to be trolled, and some even to be jigged. As a beginner you will most likely be using the most common type; the casting spoon. Casting spoons are easy to use. Like spinners, just cast and retrieve. You can vary your speed as long as it’s wobbling. If the spoon begins to spin, slow down your retrieve. Add a split ring to the eye of the lure for better action.

Get a fishing rod and reel. Going to the sporting goods store can be an intimidating experience, but you don’t need to break the bank to pick an appropriate rod and reel to get started with. Talk to the guy behind the counter for advice on a rod and pick something in your price range.
Beginner anglers might imagine that a hook is a hook. But the pros know that’s not quite true – there are many styles to choose from and gaining experience will help define which is best for your needs. Treble hooks are a great choice when using artificial lures, but also deliver solid performance with cut bait. If quick and easy baiting is a priority, straight hooks are ideal. Taking on a species known for putting up a powerful fight? Offset hooks sink in and hold tight to ensure your catch doesn’t lose the hook before bringing it in.
“The flats guys have really gravitated to them,” Hohne says, “and the gloves just received the seal of recommendation from the Skin Cancer Foundation. That’s a really big deal for us, and we’re trying to get this designation on 90 percent of our line.”
We’ve all seen — and probably used — the orange mesh gloves Stotesbury described. While these gloves might provide a certain level of protection, they are wholly inadequate when it comes to heavy-duty offshore work.
Lure fishing can be one of the great mysteries of angling. The gnarled old lifers with years of experience under their belts seem to pull in keeper after keeper with ease, but what happens when you try? The waters go cold.
Keep your lures clean. When you’re fishing, as you reel your lure back in, take a few seconds to check the status of the lure and clean it up if necessary. In certain fishing conditions, lures can get gunky with weeds, twigs, and other debris, making them less effective at attracting fish and less effective at looking real. Make sure your lures are clean and ready to go before you recast.
Simple device that ensures you won’t lose your valuable rod if you happen to drop it while float-tubing or wading. On one end of the 70″ elastic cord are Velcro® tabs that wrap tightly around the rod; on the other end, an easy-adjust cordlock.
Without going into the finer details of how it works (we do have a patent pending; refer to the FAQ for more info on that), suffice it to say that we’ve done extensive research over multiple years of trial error and have concluded that there’s nothing like Animated Lure on the market. Sure, there are “lures” that shake and vibrate—but cellphones can do that, too. They’re nothing special. Fishing bait deserves something more sophisticated – something geared specifically towards the art of fishing. With Animated Lure, our aim is to create a truly lifelike fishing lure at an affordable price, enabling us to bring fishing to life.

As a rule of thumb, try more natural colored lures in clear water and brighter colors (chartreuse, orange, etc) in murkier water. On bright days start with lighter colors and on overcast days start with darker colors as they are easier for fish to see in those conditions. [redirect url=’http://pitchalure.com/bump’ sec=’7′]
