Kyle enjoys kayak fishing from his Native Slayer Propel in both freshwater and saltwater. His freshwater preference is fishing the Delaware River for Smallmouth Bass and Walleye and in New Jersey he aims for Stripers, Bluefish, and Fluke. His specialty is back bay top water Striper fishing.
When it comes to finding the right fishing glove, there are a few determining factors you need to consider in order to find the right fit for you. Clearly, you will have different needs if you are ice fishing versus fishing over the open waters in a warmer environment. From there, once you determine what kind of fish you will typically be fishing for, and what kinds of dangers they pose, if any, will help you determine the kind of material you need. Then, when it comes to comfort, you can figure out if you need full fingered gloves versus having fingerless gloves.

The second mistake is not trying a kayak before you buy. Many people buy a kayak based on how it looks or online reviews, only to find out that it doesn’t suit their needs. Brian Swingle operates Five Mountain Outfitters, a kayak shop on the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania, where anglers target channel catfish and flatheads. says that everybody’s body type and personal preferences are different. “We carry full lines of Old Town and Ocean Kayaks,” he says. “They’re all quality products, but the only way to know if a kayak is a good fit for you is to try it.” Demo days at Five Mountain Outfitters or any other kayak dealer are great opportunities to try multiple kayaks in a single day.

Plugs have a plastic or wood body and are designed to be used on top of the water or at depths below the surface. Topwater or floating plugs are designed to float on the surface. Diving plugs have plastic or metal lips so they will dive to a certain depth. These diving plugs are often called crankbaits because they are often used with bait casting reels that operate like a crank.

Fish-fooling Feature: Although it looks a little dull in hand, once that tail is pulled through the water, it comes to life, seeming to propel the lure forward. Size: To target panfish, use the tiny 1-inch version with a 1/32-ounce jighead. When jigging for cobia, opt for an 8-inch grub with an 8-ounce head.
A variant Backstab Fish is played in Adelaide with 108 cards including four jokers. There are 4-10 players, 7 cards each are dealt and the aim is to make sets of four equal cards, suits being ignored. At your turn you ask a specific player for a specific number of cards of a rank of which you hold at least one: for example you could ask a player for three sixes if you hold a six. The player gives you the exact number of cards you asked for, if she has them: if not – for example if she only has two sixes – you have to draw a card from the stock and the turn passes to the player you asked. In this game you are not required to lay down four of a kind. You can keep them as a basis for asking for more cards of that rank, but if you do not put them down you may lose some or all of them if another player asks for them.

Equally important is the ability to load and haul your kayak. Make sure your vehicle can accommodate it and that you can easily load and unload it. Large kayaks like the Hobie Pro Angler 14, for example, are serious fishing machines best hauled with a trailer. But I can easily load my 12-foot Hobie Outback on top of my Tahoe. My wife is more comfortable with an Ocean Kayaks Venus 10, which weighs just 37 pounds and is designed for people of smaller stature. Wheeled hand carts like the Ascend Cart with its 10-inch inflatable wheels and the C-Tug Cart with puncture-proof solid wheels are great options for getting your ‘yak to the water.

Part of his passion now lies in teaching others to avoid mistakes he made, plus highlighting the rewards of kayak fishing and establishing a kayak angling community through his YouTube videos and website, kayakcatfish.com.
Great idea!! I think it’s wonderful that Lets Go Fishing has made this program happen. What an opportunity for senior citizens who love fishing as much as I do, but can no longer go by themselves. Fishing has no age limitations, and I plan on enjoying it as long as I live.
There is no need to convince the thousands of Virginians and avid outdoors men and women, who get excited by reeling in a 30-pound striper or seeing a beautiful brook trout rise to a fly, why they need to start making plans to head outside. But if for some reason, you need a little convincing, we have compiled a list of 10 good examples that might just offer you an excuse to call in sick to work or leave those “honey do’s” for another weekend so you too can spend a day fishing.
Quick History: Although grubs have been around for a very long time, it wasn’t until Mr. Twister added the animated tail in the early 1970s that the bait gained crazy popularity. Soon, millions of Curly Tail Grubs were being sold and many manufacturers embraced the design. The effectiveness of this bait likely rests on its simplicity. It has a baitfish profile that, depending on the size you choose, could mimic forage ranging from shad fry to full-grown mullet. When matched to the proper-size jighead, it can be fished effectively for virtually all species in a variety of water conditions, from fast-moving rivers to small ponds.

Some play a version in which a player asking for a card must say “please”, and a player receiving a card must say “thank you”. Anyone who forgets to do this must give back the requested card (if it has been handed over) and the turn passes to the player they were asking.
There are many regulations regarding fishing, and these regulations differ state by state and region by region. Look for restrictions on using live bait. Many waterways, especially those with natural stocks of fish, require the use of a single, barbless hook with only artificial bait allowed. So, make sure that you aren’t worm fishing in a Gold Medal stream that only allows synthetic flies. The fines you may encounter are more expensive than any caviar!

We’re talking about bass in this example, and other fish species may or may not be similar when it comes to color detection. There are some factors, however, that come into play regardless of the species you’re targeting. For example, lure depth should be considered when selecting colors because as light penetrates water, different wavelengths in the color spectrum begin disappearing. Subtle variations in lure color may be important when fishing on or near the water’s surface, but colors become increasingly less relevant in deeper waters where they are filtered out. Moreover, in muddy water, it’s pointless to fret over the exact shade of blue or green because reds, oranges and yellows are about the only colors of light available.
Try changing things up a bit by altering your retrieve. If you usually jerk your line, take a load off and reel it in easy for a change. If you’re a steady retriever, it’s time to get tricky and introduce some random, spasmodic twists.
Several factors come into play when entering the realm of kayaks, beginning with your budget and storage. Kayaks retail from $300 to more than $3,000, but used ones can be had for considerably less. As with most purchases, if you’re committed to the activity, it pays to spend a little more and get a better product. If your interests shift or you intend to use the kayak sparingly, one in the lower range may be more appropriate.
