Quick History: This topwater bait was developed in 1939 (although it has a wooden forefather called the Zarragossa). Its side-to-side action inspired the phrase “walk the dog,” which is how most describe the technique of twitching it across the water. Thousands of lures are now built to imitate this action.
Make sure to vary your lure retrieve until you figure out what the fish are responding to that day. Sometimes they want a steady retrieve, but fish often respond well to some erratic twitches and pauses. Many times a fish will follow a lure but not bite. That extra twitch or pause can cause the following fish to react by striking.
A variety of worm hooks exist to fish soft-plastic baits. Worm hooks feature a slight bend just below the hook eye for Texas-rigging plastics to make them weedless. Most worm hooks feature wide gaps to ensure adequate clearance for the point to penetrate a fish’s yap when setting the hook with a bulky plastic offering. These hooks are quite strong and feature solid penetrating power to hook fish. The Bass Pro Shops XPS Magna Superlock hook is an excellent worm hook choice with top ratings.
The strap on the wrist gives the gloves a snug fit and keep water out of the gloves. It is excellent for different types of fishing and will keep your hands warm while you’re wearing them. They are ideal for use in warm weather and to move around fishing spots.
Typically, a medium-length pole will be appropriate for most beginners. Pick a rod that’s roughly as long as you are tall and that’s a comfortable weight for your casting arm. In terms of flexibility, you’ll probably want a fairly “loose” (that is, not rigid) rod to get started with. These rods are less likely to break line and–while not strong enough to fish for big game fish–are plenty strong for the average fish a beginner catches.
The fact is, however, we often worry too much about all these variables and whether or not this color or that will catch the most fish. While knowing why fish may respond in one way or another to a particular color is useful, it’s possible to over-analyze the facts and fail to enjoy our fishing. I much prefer using some basic guidelines that have proven helpful regardless of when and where I’m fishing and what I’m fishing for. Perhaps they will be useful to you as well.
There is a super grip attribute along the palm size of each glove, which gives you the strength needed to grip each fish, and ensure it does not slip out of your grip. This fishing glove can rinse easily, allowing you to wash it and keep it durable for the long-term.
Now that you’ve got the basics down, we’re ready to tackle the subject head-on with our ten tips for lure fishing success. These tips and tricks are tried and tested by the pros. Keep your tackle box on hand and give them all a try to see what works best in your neck of the woods. Here we go:
What’s hot? You’ll often hear about a specific lure in a specific color that all the locals really like. Don’t discount the value of using these “hot” baits. Often there’s something subtle about baitfish coloration, the behavior of a certain forage animal or the color of the bottom or water that makes a particular color (or range of colors) work best. If you hear the lake you’re planning to fish is a “green lake,” stock up on your favorite baits in colors like watermelon and green pumpkin.

Yes…..You can install the CKF Paddle Clips on the Prowler and other “rounded” kayaks by flexing the base to conform to the hull. Stainless nuts and bolts are recommended when access to the interior is afforded. Snug the paddle clip base down gradually alternating back and forth between each fastener. Stainless sheet metal screws or rivets will work when a “blind” fastener is needed. The Paddle Clips should be installed at room temperature or warmer for an easy application.
You might have already figured out the right type of fishing rod for your needs, as well as the right kind of bait needed for each type of fish you are fishing for. You might have a boat, in which you have cast line holders to help you cast multiple lines at once. You might even have triggers that you attach to your lines, which alert you to when you have caught a fish. The question then becomes, what do you do once you have caught a fish? Do you use a net? Sometimes those can be a little to gangly, and hard to maneuver the way you want them to. When it comes to ensuring each fish does not get away from you, the best practice is to have some fishing gloves.
My granddaughter loves this game – to a point where she brings it over every time she comes to grandma’s house. The cards are laminated and sturdy. Her little brother has carried the box around the house several times and it is still intact – almost impossible to tear. An inexpensive alternative to fancy video/electronic games. Back to the simple!
The bottom line in choosing the best fishing kayak for your needs is that there is no one-size-fits all. Before you make a decision on purchasing a kayak for fishing, the most important thing you can do is to take stock of where and how you plan to do most of your paddling and fishing. Identify your needs: Will you be fishing in freshwater ponds for largemouth bass? Navigating streams and rivers to catch smallmouth bass and trout? Poking around saltwater harbors, estuaries and flats for striped bass and bluefish? Or do you plan to venture out into the open ocean and launch through surf? Also, will this kayak be strictly a fishing vessel, or do you plan to use it for relaxation and recreation with your family?
You will want some gloves that can handle the elements and the fish. You don’t want gloves that will tear or not keep your hands warm. They need to have protection and be able to withstand a lot of different factors.

Some spoons are made to be cast, others to be trolled, and some even to be jigged. As a beginner you will most likely be using the most common type; the casting spoon. Casting spoons are easy to use. Like spinners, just cast and retrieve. You can vary your speed as long as it’s wobbling. If the spoon begins to spin, slow down your retrieve. Add a split ring to the eye of the lure for better action.
These gloves are made from a neoprene. Neoprene is a rubber that is designed to withstand very cold temperature. They are 100% waterproof and they are equipped with a fleece lining to keep your hands warm.
A lighter line will normally increase the action of lures that dance, buzz, or hum. One way to up your chances of a catch is to keep two rods with you, each with a different size line. If one lure isn’t working on a particular line, just pop it on the next one and give it a shot. The difference in line diameter may be invisible to you, but the number of fish you nab will surely open your eyes.
For Gene, kayak fishing is more than just fishing. It’s a passion he has to be on the water seeking the rewards that only he can find for himself. He believes that certainly someone can tell you where the fish are, but it’s up to you to get them in, and that is a feeling of accomplishment.

Spoons are curved metal lures. The first spoons were just that, spoons with the handle broken off. Today, spoons can be had (like all other lures) in any color and size. There is a spoon for every fishing situation. The shape of this lure gives it its distinctive action. Spoons move through water with a side-to-side wobble that simulates an injured baitfish, and game fish just love injured baitfish.
Bait your hook. While it depends on the kind of bait you’re using, in general, you’ll want to work the hook through your bait as many times as possible to keep it securely on the hook. Holding the hook securely in one hand, start 1/3 of the way from the bottom of the bait, and push it straight through. Bend the bait back toward the hook and pierce the bait again about halfway. At least two or three secured piercings should be fine. [redirect url=’http://pitchalure.com/bump’ sec=’7′]
