In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

The shape of the hook shank can vary widely from merely straight to all sorts of curves, kinks, bends and offsets. These different shapes contribute in some cases to better hook penetration, fly imitations or bait holding ability. Many hooks intended to hold dead or artificial baits have sliced shanks which create barbs for better baiting holding ability. Jig hooks are designed to have lead weight molded onto the hook shank. Hook descriptions may also include shank length as standard, extra long, 2XL, short, etc. and wire size such as fine wire, extra heavy, 2X heavy, etc.
Hook points are commonly referred to by these names: needle point, rolled-in, hollow, spear, beak, mini-barb, semi-dropped and knife edge. Some other hook point names are used for branding by manufacturers.

Get a variety of lures to experiment. The primary purpose of fishing with a lure is to imitate as best as possible the movements of a fish’s natural prey. Consequently, there is an enormous variety in the materials, colors, and shapes of fishing lures, each suited for a particular scenario, or fish. There’s no such thing as “the best” lure and colour combination to use, so it’s good to get a variety and see what works best for you and the fish you’re trying to catch.
“Berkley can now change the solidity or softness of a bait based on new processes and combinations of active ingredients,” he says. “Some are derived from natural ingredients, while others are completely synthetic.” Berkley makes a variety of Gulp! shrimp imitators, including the Hollow Shrimp (pictured), Mantis Shrimp, Ghost Shrimp and original Shrimp.

Shank: The relatively straight portion of the hook which extends from the eye to the first bend. The length of the shank helps determine physical weight and the distance from the eye to the hook’s point. This distance helps determine the length of bait that can be used with a certain hook.
While native people of the Arctic regions did not rely on kayaks for fishing, in recent years sport fishing from kayaks has become popular in both fresh and salt water, especially in warmer regions due to the ease of entry. Kayaks can be purchased inexpensively and have little maintenance cost. Kayaks can be stored in small spaces and launched quickly. Kayak wheels and trailers can be purchased to assist in the transportation of kayaks. Many kayak anglers have started customizing their kayaks for fishing.
The most popular kayaks for fishing are rotationally molded from polyethylene due to their durability and lower cost. Hard shell kayaks are preferred over inflatable kayaks, since they are not susceptible to lure punctures. Generally, kayak fishermen look for stable, durable and comfortable designs. The new generation of twinhull (catamaran) kayaks that was recently introduced into the market is stable enough to enable both paddling and fishing in the standing position. This technological development also solves some ergonomic problems that are associated with sitting for long hours without being able to change positions, and frees kayakers from the need to sacrifice speed to stability, which is another problem that characterizes monohull kayaks.

“Anatomy and coloration become the core visual for making a premier shrimp impostor, and LiveTarget does this part better than any manufacturer,” says Gary Abernethy, who handles marketing for LiveTarget. “The factory rigging that creates the pristine profile really allows the game fish to see only shrimp; the fish is not seeing weight, hook rigging or any apparatus attached to the lure.”
Attach your weights and bobbers. If the water is quite swift, as in a river or stream, it is probably best to attach weights (sinkers) to your line about 12″ above your bait. By weighting down your line you will keep your bait in place an inch or a few inches above the floor of the water—right where fish are likely to be hunting.
