Jersey’s winter flounder season just opened on March 1st, and if its anything like last spring, we could be in for a heck of a spring fishery. Flounder poundin is a light tackle affair, but you can up your odds to catch more… Read More

“In shallow water, we use a popping cork with 14 to 24 inches of 35-pound fluorocarbon leader below the cork, tied directly to the shrimp,” says Capt. Brian Sherman, of Venice, Louisiana. “In the winter, when fishing in 5 to 10 feet of water, I get rid of the cork and jig the shrimp with an irregular pattern.”
Found it to be built well works great and seems very durable I weigh 250lbs and no issues. I’ve seen reviews about the skeg falling off, this has to be operator error because it’s very hard to remove on purpose. But I can definitely so how easy it would be to install incorrectly, I almost did it myself. When installed correctly it cannot be removed without first depressing two tabs that lock it in. All in all very good deal for the money.
That’s where Animated Lure comes in—a self-propelling lure that takes care of the tedious work for you. You can use that valuable time to bond. After all, fishing is often meant to be a social experience. It can enhance the professional fisherman’s experience, too. Whatever your situation, your focus should be about catching big game, not bobbing the rod up and down and casting the line over and over again.
Choosing the right bait for your rod is important, fishing is not easy therefore you have to use the best bait available! The fish shaped fishing bait is special, the 3D eyes trick even the smart…
Try spoons. A spoon is a lure which resembles the head of a spoon without the handle. This shape causes the lure to flutter in the water as it sinks, which then creates the illusion of an injured bait fish. The red devil, a red and white spoon, is very popular. The red stripes look like blood to a hungry game fish.
To achieve the proper effect, cast and allow the jig the sink for a few moments. Then retrieve the jig at a slow rate while simultaneously and rapidly twitching your rod tip up and down. Rapid twitching means RAPID twitching. Your rod hand should bounce down perhaps 4x per second while your retrieve hand is making no more than one revolution per second. Try counting “one-one-thou-sand, two-one-thou-sand…” and so on to establish the rhythm of your cranking while bouncing your rod hand on each syllable. It takes a little practice to get the feel of it.

Weather – Each type of fishing glove is best suited for a particular type of weather environment. If you purchase a fishing glove that is double layered to help keep your hands warm, you should not wear that kind of glove out in the Florida Keys in the month of July. In contrast, if you have a glove which is thin and breathable, to allow your hands to stay cooler, then you should not wear that glove to go ice fishing up in Michigan in the month of January.
Welcome to New England Kayak Fishing (NEKF), the premier resource for kayak fishing information in the New England region. We created this site in 2005 to help promote and educate people on the exciting sport of kayak fishing. We welcome all skill levels and invite everyone to register.
One other feature you should look out for, especially if you fish in areas where it is typically warmer and the sun is out more often, is finding fishing glove which can offer you protection from getting a sunburn. This is especially true for fingerless gloves, as you don’t want the tips of your fingers to get burnt badly while out on the boat, and, if you put sunscreen on the tips of your fingers, then they become more greasy, which means slippier, which then defeats the whole reason you have fishing gloves to start with.

This is the German equivalent of Happy Families or Authors. Quartett can be played with a standard 32-card pack (A-K-D-B-10-9-8-7), as used for the German national game Skat. However, this is not longer usual as a huge variety of special Quartett packs are available. These mostly also consist of eight quartets and therefore 32 cards. Many different designs of cards have been made for this game from the late nineteenth to the present day, with various educational or other themes. German Quartett cards are often provided with technical statistics related to the theme of the pack, so that they can also be used to play Top Trumps, which in German is sometimes known as Supertrumpf, and sometimes include a Schwarzer Peter (Black Peter) card so that they can be used for the German equivalent of Old Maid.
Point: This is the business end of the hook. In recent years manufacturers have been in a race to develop the “newest and best” point. Whether chisel, trocar, needle, knife edge or rolled–they must be sharp to land the big ones.
Whether you are fishing icy rivers for salmon or steelhead, wiring big blue marlin in a warm ocean, ice fishing on a frigid frozen lake or doing just about any other type of extreme angling, a good pair of gloves should go with you. This small investment will pay immediate returns in comfort and safety. Your hands and feet are the first parts of your body to signal your brain that it’s getting pretty darned cold outside, so a good pair of gloves will help keep you warm physically and mentally. They will also protect your hands from nicks, scrapes, cuts and worse when handling the toothy, thrashing fish you are leadering and landing.
Now that you’ve got the basics down, we’re ready to tackle the subject head-on with our ten tips for lure fishing success. These tips and tricks are tried and tested by the pros. Keep your tackle box on hand and give them all a try to see what works best in your neck of the woods. Here we go:
The Bounty 100 Angler is a stable fishing kayak featuring a bow quick-lock hatch and a large storage platform with bungee in the stern. Made of incredibly rigid yet light RAM-X material, this sit-in kayak weighs only 39 pounds and includes rod holders, cockpit knee pads, and an adjustable padded backrest with seat cushion and adjustable footrests.
If you want a better material than rubber, you can go with a variety of different options, including latex, mesh, leather and neoprene, just to name a few. These materials all have different attributes which will help you, depending upon the type of weather you typically fish within. Each one has their own strengths (leather is more waterproof, mesh allows you to have a little bit more breathability), so you can determine which kind of material is best for you.
Don’t overdo it. Fishing is a lot like chess, a game of quiet movements and subtlety, not herky-jerky nonsense. Most beginners jerk the line around too much. It’s important to reel in very slowly, using calm and gentle movements on the line. If you’re not catching anything, slow your movements down and be gentler with your rod.
Owens Creek – Frederick County. From Frederick take Route 15 North to Thurmont. At Thurmont take Route 550 West. Route 550 parallels Owens Creek, look for parking areas posted with regulation signs. Wild or hatchery trout.
Nets: Nets are great tools but are cumbersome in a kayak. Consider a foldable net like the Frabill Power Stow, StowMaster Kayak Net, or a fish-gripping device like a Team Catfish Floating Grip, a Boga Grip, or even a rubberized glove for landing fish.
