Cast your lure and point the rod tip toward the water at a 45 degree angle. Move the rod tip downward to a 90 degree angle in a jerking motion. Turn the reel handle 1 turn for every jerk. Move the rod slowly at first, and then gradually increase the speed to copy the movement of a bait fish swimming away.

For most lakes, ponds, small impoundments, and rivers with moderate to slow current, a kayak with intermediate characteristics often performs best and is most versatile. Such models range from 10 to 14 feet long, with widths from 28 to 36 inches to match an angler’s size, fishing style, and personal preference. If you like to stand and cast, a wider kayak is more stable. You also need to decide if you want to paddle, pedal, or use power as your mode of propulsion.
The first thing you do is deal cards to the players. For 2 to 3 players you deal each player 7 cards. If there are more than three players, deal 5 cards each. The rest of the deck is then spread out in the middle of the players face down. This can be called the pool of cards.
There are a lot of fishing lures in a lot of sizes, shapes and colors. As you understand more about the environment fish live in and how they behave, you will learn which fishing bait or lure is best for specific fish during different seasons of the year.
Now, while a simple Zebco-style spincast outfit may work fine, they’re not always very good at casting thin flimsy line, which is a necessity. Some of the pricier spincast reels do quite nicely, but a lightweight spinning reel with a medium action 6-foot rod is a better place to start for most fishermen. Some trout fishermen love the challenge of an ultra-light set-up, but this is not necessary. The smaller the reel, the smaller the crank ratio. The shorter the rod, the less shock absorber effect you’ll have, meaning you’ll have to use your drag setting and brains to avoid breaking the line. In other words, landing the fish is more difficult. Shorter rods also make it tougher to cast long distances.
Contemporary hooks are manufactured from either high-carbon steel, steel alloyed with Vanadium, or stainless steel, depending on application. Most quality fish hooks are covered with some form of corrosion-resistant surface coating. Corrosion resistance is required not only when hooks are used, especially in saltwater, but while they are stored. Additionally, coatings are applied to color and/or provide aesthetic value to the hook. At a minimum, hooks designed for freshwater use are coated with a clear lacquer, but hooks are also coated with gold, nickel, Teflon, tin and different colors.
This is the Show for Fishermen! The Let’s Go Fishing Show is a Show dedicated solely to anglers. Folks who love to fish come from Central Illinois, Southern Illinois and Missouri. The eye of a hook, although some hooks are technically eyeless, is the point where the hook is connected to the line. Hook eye design is usually optimized for either strength, weight and/or presentation. There are different types of eyes to the hooks. Typical eye types include the ring or ball eye, a brazed eye-the eye is fully closed, a tapered eye to reduce weight, a looped eye—traditional on Atlantic Salmon flies, needle eyes, and spade end—no eye at all, but a flattened area to allow secure snelling of the leader to the hook. Hook eyes can also be positioned one of three ways on the shank—up turned, down turned or straight.
Commonly referred to parts of a fish hook are: its point – the sharp end that penetrates the fish’s mouth or flesh; the barb – the projection extending backwards from the point, that secures the fish from unhooking; the eye – the loop in the end of the hook that is connected to the fishing line or lure; the bend and shank – that portion of the hook that connects the point and the eye; and the gap – the distance between the shank and the point. In many cases, hooks are described by using these various parts of the hook. Example: Wide gap, 2X Long Shank, Hollow Point, Turned Down Ring Eye Bait hook.
Consider first that your hands will likely become wet with sweat or seawater, which causes slippage, pruning and a greater susceptibility to cuts. Then there’s the fact that a rocking boat often leads to banged knuckles on heavy gear. And, of course, if you’re latched onto a true beast, you’ll be working hard for an extended period of time, which always leads to hand cramps and blistering.
These live bait hooks are made from light wire. Fine wire inflicts minimal damage to bait, keeping it lively longer than bait holder hooks. Aberdeens excels in thick cover where a snagged hook flexes easily, pulling free of hazards.
Make sure to follow local regulations on the number of fish you may retain. Although you may catch 100 fish using good bait, you might only be allowed to keep a small number of fish or a certain size fish. Some areas are catch and release only, so be cognizant of fishing regulations.

My granddaughter loves this game – to a point where she brings it over every time she comes to grandma’s house. The cards are laminated and sturdy. Her little brother has carried the box around the house several times and it is still intact – almost impossible to tear. An inexpensive alternative to fancy video/electronic games. Back to the simple!
Safety: “Your top priority when kayak fishing should be safety,” Johnston says, “especially on moving water. Again, never anchor in fast current. Even in slow current, if you don’t feel comfortable anchoring, don’t do it. If you do anchor, use a quick-release system so you can quickly detach from your anchor if necessary. This can be accomplished by using a caribiner clip if you’re using an anchor trolley, or a zig-zag cleat if you’re tying off directly to your kayak.

Love these hooks. They stay sharp and can take some abuse. Have used both the standard and the red. Not sure if the red actually makes trout think the bait is wounded or not, but you never know! LOL… These are the only hooks you will find at the end of my line when fishing live bait whether it be shrimp or croaker. Just be sure to have a couple of different sizes depending on how big the bait is at the time.

The best gloves for fishing in cold weather will be lined or insulated. Most experienced anglers recommend choosing neoprene gloves that are 5 to 7 mm thick so you have plenty of protection from the cold wind and water. If the fishing gloves are constructed from latex you will want to make sure that they come with a fleece or thermal lining, and this can also be found on some neoprene pairs that are designed specifically for ice fishing. While warmth is crucial for your safety and comfort, you also want to make sure that the gloves are not too bulky that they restrict the movements of your fingers.
My 3 year old enjoyed playing with this for a few minutes, but the magnets for the fishing pole are not strong enough to actually lift the fish. We eventually just used our fingers rather than the poles. It still was fun and entertaining for about 10 minutes.
Secluded spots around ponds or levees outside of town are good bets. If you’re wandering in the woods looking for a place to fish privately, make sure you’re not tramping onto someone’s private property, or that you’re fishing in a place that doesn’t allow it.
While there are lots of specialty fishing hooks available, a handful of select hook styles do the brunt of the work for most fishing presentations. Bait, circle, treble, and worms hooks are a few examples. The following is a primer on popular fish hooks and some of their applications. [redirect url=’http://pitchalure.com/bump’ sec=’7′]
