Safety: “Your top priority when kayak fishing should be safety,” Johnston says, “especially on moving water. Again, never anchor in fast current. Even in slow current, if you don’t feel comfortable anchoring, don’t do it. If you do anchor, use a quick-release system so you can quickly detach from your anchor if necessary. This can be accomplished by using a caribiner clip if you’re using an anchor trolley, or a zig-zag cleat if you’re tying off directly to your kayak.
Our selection of fishing and leadering gloves are built to protect your hands while not affecting dexterity. Whether you are cranking on cow tuna or leadering a grander blue marlin, Melton Tackle has the perfect fishing glove for you.
The body of water you typically fish within is a key factor for which kind of fishing gloves you will need. Not all gloves can be used in saltwater, although all the different fishing gloves can be used in freshwater. The reason that not all gloves can be used in saltwater is because the actual salt within the saltwater will start eating away at material within your gloves, which will cause them to fall apart over time. There are gloves which are specified for saltwater, so you will need to focus on those if you mainly fish within saltwater bodies of water. Once you have determined the body of water you typically fish upon, then you can move onto the next step.
One important thing to note is that these gloves are not waterproof. They are not designed to be dipping your hands in ice water. However, when fishing on cold weather days, these would definitely would be my go to pair.

A chunk of fresh dead shrimp skewered to a J hook was the first bait I ever used to catch a saltwater fish. Casting off a seawall with my dad near the Miami Seaquarium, we caught blue runners, jacks, pinfish, grunts, ladyfish, stingrays and snappers. Not the most glamorous species, but the number of different fish that attacked our shrimp made a lasting impression.
The other week I volunteered as a guide for another Saturday event for the Maryland chapter of Heroes on the Water (HOW). This event was held on Clopper Lake, part of Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, MD. My Friday night routine was the same as for any other kayak fishing excursion: prep rods and reels, inventory and select tackle, charge GoPro batteries, check weather forecast and then try and get some sleep. The last one is always the hardest for me – I still feel like a kid the night before departing on a trip to Disney World.
I bought it for an ocean kayaking in CA. It’s ok for calm ocean. Some suggestions after 5 times use. DONT FORGET TO CLOSE UP DRAIN HOLE down behind a second person. It’s very reliable if closed. DONT TRY TO ATTACH THE SKEG, if it has SAND on it – its very hard to detach then. Melt small hole in the skeg and tie it with 50 cm of paracord to the kayak to prevent loosing the skeg while kayaking. Even with 2 persons onboard there still room for 2 small backpacks. Even 50 liter backpack will … read more Click to read full text of review titled “OK even for ocean”.

As a rule of thumb, try more natural colored lures in clear water and brighter colors (chartreuse, orange, etc) in murkier water. On bright days start with lighter colors and on overcast days start with darker colors as they are easier for fish to see in those conditions.
Many other factors relate to how well a fish sees a lure or lure color—so many, we can’t discuss all of them here. Time of day, wind velocity, types of dissolved particles in the water, sky color, season—all these and more affect one’s ability to catch fish on a certain lure color.
Anglers often experiment with a wide range of lure colors before determining one that entices the most strikes, but learning some basic tips can help narrow the range of colors from which the selection should be made. (Keith Sutton photo)

Andrew resided in northern New Jersey most of his life and began fishing many of the freshwater lakes, ponds, and rivers in his mid-teens. Entering his 4th kayak angling season, Andrew has already logged more days on the water than most will in a decade. Primarily a freshwater kayak angler, Andrew targets Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Landlocked Salmon, and Pan Fish, although Northern Pike, Walleye and Muskie are his favorite catches.

Aberdeen hooks are composed of a lighter wire than Siwash hooks and are often used for bait fishing. The thin metal easily hooks bait with minimal damage so it stays lively. Light wire also makes them a good option when fishing timber for crappie. When snagged, you can sometimes bend the hook and pull it free with a bit of pressure. The Eagle Claw Cricket Aberdeen hook is a top rated hook on BassPro.com.
“In shallow water, we use a popping cork with 14 to 24 inches of 35-pound fluorocarbon leader below the cork, tied directly to the shrimp,” says Capt. Brian Sherman, of Venice, Louisiana. “In the winter, when fishing in 5 to 10 feet of water, I get rid of the cork and jig the shrimp with an irregular pattern.”
5) Weight: Fishing kayaks range in weight from about 65 to 130 pounds before adding accessories and gear. Consider how you plan to transport your kayak. A kayak over 100 pounds may be a great fishing platform, but it can be back-breaking to lift onto a car-top rack or drag a long distance to the water. Fortunately, kayak carts ease the burden of transporting kayaks from vehicle to water. Lift-assist devices also can help with car-topping, and trailers are another option.
Oh, the wonderful world of technology. A vibrating lure contains a tiny motor that sends out a sound-producing vibration to attract fish. The lure body simulates a living creature. A programmed microprocessor is used to randomly operate the motor.

No rigging or special customization is required with either of these systems.

Many Quartett packs with various themes have been published. The variety is so great as to give ther impression that they are seen more as picture books or as collectible objects than as cards for a game. Leonhard Stork’s catalogue Spielzeit – Bestimmungshandbuch für Quartett- und Peterspiele von 1880 bis heute (Playtime – identification handbook for Quartett and Black Peter cards from 1880 to the present), published in August 2000 and now out of print, listed 4800 different German Quartett and Black Peter packs.
