Written by David Fisher on August 28th, 2009

Bass fishing has became so popular that it is now over a billion dollar industry. There are bass clubs all over the world, and there are also many events and sponsors that promote bass fishing. So if you are wondering if bass fishing is here to stay, we can safely say that it will be around for a long time if not forever.

There are many places in freshwater where you can find bass at, for example you can find them in rivers, lakes, streams or ponds. The best place out of these to catch bass would be a river, especially a spot in a river that has a change in current. Obstructions like rocks, fallen trees or stumps make great places for bass to be around.

Largemouth Bass without a doubt is the most sought after game fish in Florida. It is the main target of the majority of anglers. Many of these lure busting monsters in the 10 to 12 pound range are taken every year in local waters.

Some other types of freshwater fish that are also worthy to catch are the brown bullhead, along with the catfish. These fish are very fun to fight, not only are they very fun to fight they can make a great meal at the dinner table also. But when it comes to overall popularity, the bass still takes the crown of freshwater fishing.

For freshwater fishing, all you really need is a pole and maybe a can of worms to catch some fish. When it comes to bass though, it gets little more technical than just that. Bass have been fished for hundreds of years, and we still do not know exactly what they like, we have a good idea though.

Over the years have grown many kinds of techniques to catch bass, along with many types of tackle used in bass fishing also. If you are just starting out and want to get into bass fishing, you might want to start with a light fishing rod that holds about 10 pound test.

Also, it is suggested to start with artificial bait until the angler has a better understanding of the unique characteristics of the bass fish. The Spinnerbait is common artificial bait used by both amateur and seasoned anglers.

Once you catch a bass, they are almost always released. This technique is called catch and release, and was made to conserve the population of different species of fish. Many people do not consider bass to be a fish served on the dinner table, thus catch and release is used on bass in most cases.
